ARCHIVE OF EUROPEAN CULTURE
Competition — 1st Prize
YEAR: 2021
PLACE: Landshut, Germany
TYPE: Digital Archive
Arguing that a prison is the ideal typology for safe-keeping, Archive of European Culture is a project that proposes to revitalise the old prison of Landshut, by transforming it into a data centre and connect its functionality to an initiative by the European Union to digitally archive our European heritage.
The design strategy consists of two consecutive phases. First, the prison will be transformed into a digital archive; the upper floors of the building will be closed off, to provide storage space for the server towers, while the ground floor will function as a public forum. The project then expands into the nearby park, where a variety of added structures will provide additional space to practice and showcase the intangible parts of our culture.
